Spicy Tuna Sushi Roll

Spicy Tuna Sushi Roll Recipe

A Spicy Tuna Sushi Roll Recipe for Mama

This spicy tuna sushi roll is easy to make, and it’s delicious! No worries if you’re new to making sushi. I will show you how to roll sushi easily so that you can get a delicious and beautiful roll every time.

The spicy tuna sushi rolls, or California rolls to some, contain tuna. You can either mince the tuna into a thin strip (known as shichimi-style) or leave it whole.

Where Can I Buy Sushi Grade Tuna in My Area?

Google for sushi-grade fish in your locality. Asian markets, butchers, and fish markets will all have it. You can use any type of fresh tuna. Just check when the butcher bought the fish, and make sure it smells, feels and is intact. Food borne illnesses are always possible, but you should do your best to ensure that the food is fresh.

This recipe will have us tossing the tuna into rice wine vinegar. By doing so, we can also reduce the risk of food-borne illnesses by allowing the tuna to cure a bit. If I’m worried, I like to wash and dry my fish before I prepare it.

The recipe will tell you whether to keep it mild or add more heat.

How Do I Make a Roll of Sushi With the Rice Outside?

It may be intimidating to roll sushi with the outer rice, but I’ve got a few tricks and tips that make it easy.

First, Lay plastic wrap down on your workspace, then add rice.

Second, Press the rice as thinly and evenly as possible with your hands in the shape of nori seaweed. Then, place another plastic wrap on top and roll the rice down.

Remove the plastic wrap on the rice. If you are using a large nori, cut it to the desired size for the sushi roll. I cut mine into 3/4ths and threw away the 1/4 remaining sheet. The rough side of the nori seaweed sheet should be placed on top of the rice. It will stick immediately to the rice once it is down. You can add more rice to any areas that require it.

Fourth, Trim the rice sides around the nori leaving a small space.

Fifth – Add the filling. Then lift the plastic wrap from each side. Bring the roll together, so that the ends are in the middle. Roll on its side, and while the plastic wrap is still on the roll use your hands gently to press the roll together.

Sixth — Use a towel or a mat to compress and secure your roll. Trim the ends of the roll and remove the plastic.

Seventh– You can either add sauces or toppings now, or slice them first. Again this is a preference.

Eighth – It can be difficult to slice the sushi rolls, but using a serrated blade that has been dipped into either rice vinegar or lukewarm water in between each cut makes it easy. You can gently and slowly cut through the sushi roll to get past the nori wrapping without damaging your roll.

Ninth- Plate and Enjoy.

10th — Do it again to see how much you improve!
