Sushi Ingredients and Tools, Your gateway to mastering the art
Prepare the following ingredients and equipment before you begin.
Sushi rice: 2 cups (approximately 390 grams) This is the base of your roll.
Nori Sheets: 6 Half-cut sheets – Ideal for wrapping and adding an authentic sushi feeling.
Toasted Sesame seeds: Sprinkle on top for texture and flavor.
Crab: Two cans of Sustainability Crab. Choose Snow crabs or Dungeness from the U.S.A., or Canada.
Sriracha: 15mL or 1 tbsp. of the spicy sauce will give you a dash of heat.
Heavy Mayonnaise: 1 tbsp (15mL) – To provide a creamy consistency.
Shichimi togarashi: 1 tsp (or 5mL) This spice blend enhances the taste profile.
Sharp Knife: A yanagiba is ideal for a precise cut.
Makisu: Make sure it is wrapped in cellophane so that the rice doesn’t stick.
Cutting board: A flat, clean surface is essential.
Stirring Utensils – For a thorough mixture of ingredients.
Mixing Bowls: This is where all the magic happens.

Filling is the key to any tasty sushi roll. The spicy crab salad, for sushi lovers, is more than just a filling. It’s a burst in flavor and texture. This recipe is not only delicious, but also simple. The main ingredient in this recipe is spicy crab salad. It’s important that every step of preparation be executed perfectly.
How to Prepare Crab Meat
Draining Excess Liquid. Begin by draining water from two cans with sustainable crab meat. The end product will be better if you get rid of as much water as possible.
Squeezing out Excess moisture: After draining the liquid, grab a small piece of crab meat and squeeze it. Squeeze out any residual moisture over the sink. Squeezing 3 handfuls of crab meat for every 6 oz provided the best consistency. Then, transfer the crab meat into a separate bowl. The goal is to get the crab meat as dry as possible. The nori sheet will become damp, compromising the quality of your sushi roll.
Making the Spice Mix In a large bowl, combine Sriracha and Shichimi togarashi. Mix them until they are smooth and creamy. For this recipe, I use two spoons but any tool will work.
How to make the Spicy Crab Roll
Spread toasted sesame seed generously on your nori sheet. Spread a layer on nori and cover the edge with sushi rice.
Place the spicy crab filling. Now that the rice is in place, the main ingredient can be placed. Spread out your spicy crab mixture in a thin, neat line, about 2cm in width, in the middle of the nori sheet.

Plate & Presentation: Transfer your sushi roll onto a cuttingboard once it is finished. Cut the roll into eight equal pieces using a sharp knife.
